Schizophonia : Basic Definition
- A term originally coined by R Murray Schaefer to describe the nervous split that is created when sound is separated from its source.
- Schizophonia = that which makes dogs bark at speakers, children look for the man behind the box and savages demand their captured souls returned.
Acousmatization (off-screen, mythical, hidden, Schizo) VS de-acousmatization (visible, embodied, direct)
Sonic Alkemie
Schizophone + Synchronized-event = re-embodied sound (fictional de-acousmatization)

Accessibility of the experiential horizon in which sound takes place can be technically and artistically constructed. Details regarding the nature of this construction hold enormous aesthetic potential, affective power and should not always be simply sacrificed in favour of Acousmatic abstractions. In other words, the relationship between a sound and it’s “experienced” source should be carefully crafted using computational augmentation.
Sphizophonia and the Acousmatic, all around us, inhibit us from hearing both the sound object and its contextual origin. Using technology, we can re-invent the electroacoustic sound-event as a gesture and its subsequent noise. While interacting with a real-time gestural sound system, one discovers how nuances in physical movement can create intricate sonic textures. Gestures and actions are manifested into sound, agitating the materiality of movement, and matter. Through interactively varied augmentation of the world's natural acoustical response, the built and the found collapse in a performative sonics, leading to narratives about shaping fresh relationships with the world.
